  [ EN ] Though not exploited, civil status registers are prime documents for the study of past populations. Through the analysis of the different regulation texts, it is possible to follow the evolution of registration since the monarchy era and during the colonization. Such an analysis points out not only the deficiencies of the registers but also their significance : in particular, those pertaining to the quality of the statements, the recording and the keeping of the registers.
