[ EN ] Antananarivo was built on hills. Ikopa plain was its main extension area, which explains the vulnerability of the city with regard to flood. Thus, the protection of the plain is essential before any urbanization off hill.
During high waters, Antananarivo suffers flooding that can reach even 4m high in the slums. Compounded by the embankment, Antananarivo inhabitants are increasingly vulnerable to flooding.
The solution, which is a prerequisite of Antananarivo urbanization, is the construction of upstream flood retention dam and/ or the widening of the downstream narrowing of Ikopa.
