  [ EN ] This article is the result of a survey on the sailing boats made in Majunga but also a general introduction to traditional shipbuildings in the Noth West of Madagascar. References to other models are suggested and the development of a still vigorous trade and technical problems inherent in shipbuilding proper are dealt with. The fondy or chief ship-wright has to face as many demands as the ones required by the choice of the species that has to be used, the respect of the traditions in building matters, the adaptation to modern techniques.
