    [ EN ] Like most important churches in Madagascar, the modest Tranozozoro can pride itself on a rich and fertile history. Though this eventful history was characterized by disputes and trials, it is definitely one of prime importance in the general evolution of Malagasy Protestantism on the one hand and of Malagasy nationalism on the other. Two outstanding church-ministers, Rajaonary and Rajohnson, dominated the history of the Tranozozoro. That church was one of the earlier manifestations of Malagasy national pride reacting against British missionaries’contemptuous authority or French colonial power. It was founded in 1894 (as a result of an internal schism within the Church of Ambatonakanga). Its importance was consolidated under Gallieni who thought he would be able to use the church against foreign missions on behalf of French colonization. In fact it was very soon persecuted by the central government on account of its obvious links with nationalism.
    For three quarters of a century, the Tranozozoro kept its primary features, namely : it rejected any foreign guidance (hence another schism in 1928, this time with the F.F.M.A.) ; it led a constant struggle against the European missionaries’influence ; it remained attached to the principle of congregational church-origins ; it advocated a permanent search for evangelical spirit which was readily combined with nationalist ideals ; it kept within the lines of traditional Malagasy values and attempted to associate universal Christianity and genuine Malagasy personality.

    Olona niala tamin’ny renim-piangonan’Ambatonakanga no nanorina ny Tranozozoro tamin’ny 1894. Noheverin’i Gallieni fa ho azony ampiasaina eo amin’ny sehatry ny fanjanahan-tany mba hanoherana ireo Misionera vahiny io fiangonana io, koa nampiany teo amin’ny fitarany. Tsy ela akory anefa dia nampijalian’ny fitondrana frantsay ny Tranozozoro noho ny fahatakarany ny fifandraisana nisy teo amin’io fiangonana io sy ny tolona ho an’ny fahafahana.
    Tsy niala tamin’ny fehi-kevitra nijoroany ary nampiavaka azy ny Tranozozoro : fandavana izay rehetra mety ho fanjakazakan’ny vahiny, tamin’ny 1928 dia nisaraka tamin’ny F.F.M.A. indray kosa ny Tranozozoro ; fanoherana mandrakariva ny Misionera eoropeana ; firaiketana amin’ny endrika nananan’ny fiangonana malagasy teny am-piandohana – dia ny endriky ny fikambanan’ny kristiana ; finiavana hampihatra ny sori-dalan’ny Filazantsara izay heverina mazava fa hitondra amin’ny famahoana ; fitazonana ny harentsaina malagasy ary fikarohana izay fomba hampifandrindra ny finoana kristiana amin’ny maha-malagasy ny Malagasy.
