  [ EN ] This is a reconstruction of the daily life of the Malagasy soldiers who took part in the Second World War from archive documents, the richest of which are those of the Catholic Chaplaincy to the Malagasy formations in France, and interviews of war veterans. Only a minority was enlisted in the “Funny War”. The others arrived in France during the Debacle. Those who were made prisoners by the Germans attempted several escapes. The Malagasy soldiers were not demobilized after the armistice in June 1940, but were organized into “detachments of workers”, which were then put at the disposal of French and German military authorities, of firms, or of individuals. Some of them joined the F.T.P. Their repatriation took place in 1946 only, after an extremely long wait. This often versy distressing exile explains that a certain number took part in the 1947 insurrection.
