[EN] For the first time since the early eighties when the four known males of the relict genus Microscalabotes were collected, a specimen, was recently taken at Périnet (East Madagascar). It is the first female, showing its sex has no preanal pores in this genus. Prior available specimens were faded and had regenerate tails. The present gecko shows, as a lygodactyle, a quite peculiar pattern in head pigmentation (see figure). Its distal tail whorls from the ninth have five medio-ventral scales : this trait is both entirely lacking in malagasy Lygodactylus and existing in primitive African ones, and so are some digit features of the genus. This falls in well with the writer’s 1964 hypothesis that Microscalabotes and Lygodactylus in Madagascar are descended from two different, largely time-distant stocks.
