  [ EN ] Thefts of different sorts done by groups of people called fahavalo existed in the betsileo region of the southern part on Matsiatra between 1830 and 1860. That took place in the western part as well as in the south-east region. The administration tried to struggle against that but they took away prisoners too. Many people died and were taken away as prisoners in that period, either among the fahavalo or the inhabitants. Many oxen were lost. According to history, that situation did not stop till the end of Ranavalona I’s reign. What was the reason ? Not only it was a form of fights among different “tribes” but also it could be a protest against too hard exploitation done by the administration on the inhabitants.
