[ EN ] Through Rainijohary (1793-1881) belonged to a privileged class, he became one of the most important officers and of the most influential men in the age of Queen Ranavalona I (1828-1861), mainly through his own merits. Of that great figure we should remember : - the clear – sighted statesman who foresaw the dangers of foreign intrusion – and the man whose strong unbending personality made implacable enemies and rivals. As he constantly fought the power, Rainijohary was aware of the advantages and the price to pay for its loss. Indeed, he disappeared from the political scene, was exiled at the age of seventy five and died in Mananjary, far from his native place.
