  [ EN ] Among the source materials about recent history of Madagascar, people must know the existence of the « diaire » that Mgr. Thoyer (1884-1970) had written during his episcopate in Fianarantsoa (1937-1962). The evolution of the Betsileo region cannot be understood if attention is not paid to the work of the Christian churches for more than a century. The bishop’s “diaire” informs us about the history of this province and even about the whole island, as he was, as well, one of those who worked for the Malagasisation of the catholic church.
