    [ENG] As a shortage of fertile land in the rural areas of Madagascar is an important incentive for ruralurban migration, villagers move to Antananarivo mainly because they hope to improve theirstandard of living there. This article examines the positive and negative impact of migration onthe living conditions of migrants in the Antetezanafovoany neighbourhood and resulting changesin attitudes towards ancestral and funerary customs. The evolution of these customs mirrorsprocesses of social change within society.
