Ary na dia nisy aza teny ho eny fifandomana madinidinika niseho, dia voatery nanaiky azy ho mponina ireo tantsaha manodidina.[ EN ] This is a narrative of some moments of a conflict which opposed, about three quarters of a century ago, a French colonist in Ampangabe, west of Tananarive, to the village’s population near by his concession and more strikely to the madinika governor (of a lower rank).

The said colonist, Ch. Couesnon, set up on the eve of the XXth century. He had the use of a great exploitation, probably including ancient rice and pasture lands, dispossessed from the “natives”. Thank to the support of the administration, he took confidence in the future and tried numerous agricultural experiences – not-with-standing some incidents with the neighbouring peasants.
Yet his enterprise readily faced with serious difficulties, the laboures ran away from him, and he lost the official support under Governor general Augagneur’s rule. He came to stay in Tananarive as a civil officer, but still helded his concession, where he went no more but at times. Incidents then grew numerous, and Couesnon came into struggle, sometimes violently, with governor-madinika Rainimanantsalama, which latter competed with him in horses breading matter – supported from that time by the official benevolence.
As Augagneur left, the authorities supported again the colonist. Business grew prosperous on. And in spite of new strokes, neigbouring villagers had to stand his presence.
