  [ EN ] According to some interpretation of the Tantara ny Andriana, the initiator of markets in Imerina is Andrianampoinimerina (1784-1809). This assertion is incorrect : in the days of of the “internecine wars”, markets already existed such as the famous one, of Alatsinainambazaha, “the Foreigners’Monday”, for traders, more likely Arabs than Europeans, came to it to collect the ransom of King Andriamasinavalona (held hostage by one of his four sons and redeemed by the three others) in “seven baskets of foreign origin” (doubtless haversacks More air and water-tigth than sewn sobikas). These slave markets were often “meeting places”, outside the villages as participants feared possible treachery on the part of enemies. As Mayeur testifies, other markets (tsena) had been created in Imerina and its borders, opening the country to foreign trade. Each bore the name of one day of the week, which leads one to think that their initiators were Arabs (or Antalaotras).
