    [ EN ] The Islam converts of the ancient Antemoro kingdom, forming an aristocratic class, had in their possession some sorabe manuscripts in arabic characters. Their authority was partly based on their esoteric knowledge – of a magico-religious or historic nature – of these manuscripts written in 3 languages (Malagasy, Arabic and an Arabic-malagasy pidgin) and their knowledge of the script itself. The origin of divination techniques and talisman making is to be found in arab magic literature, but very likely, in India and South-East Asia as well. Most of these manuscripts are a synthesis of “muslim” knowledge and “native” malagasy knowledge. It is necessary to collect oral tradition material in historic and magico-religious domains to complete these texts (often elliptical and incomplete) and to collate them with traditions of other origins. Despite a recent discovery of Islam, the use of sorabe is still very much alive, especially within the Antalaotra groups, formerly the holders of religious power.

Ny fahaizana saro-pantarina mikasika ny finoana, ny majia ary ny tantara fonosin’izy ireny, izay voasoratra amin’ny teny malagasy, arabo ary teny mifangaro (arabo sy malagasy) no antoky ny fahaefan’andriana. Ny haisoratra arabo, ary angamba koa i Inde sy i Azia atsimo-atsinanana no loharano nipoiran’ny fahaiza-mamantatra ny ho avy ny sy fanaovana ody. Ny ankabeazan’ireo boky ireo dia mampivady ny hairà “silamo” sy ny hairà malagasy. Ilaina tokoa ny fanangonana ny lovan-tsofina mikasika ny tantara, ny finoana mba hahazoana mameno ireny soratra ireny izay misy banga matetika, ka tokony hampitahaina amin’ny loharano hafa. Na dia eo aza ny firosoana indray ho amin’ny finoana silamo hita tato ho ato, dia tsapa fa tena mbola velona tokoa ny sorabe, indrindra eo amin’ny Antalaotra, mpitana ny fahefana momba ny finoana fahizay.
