  [EN] The statistics on the Malagasy foreign trade show an increased bulk of imports and exports, but also a serious deficit in the trade balance. Madagascar is favoured with a certain number of advantages, the most important of which is the well-balanced and varied character of its production, but on the other hand there are numerous handicaps : the isolation of the island and the high cost of transport which have repercussions on the sale price of Malagasy products, the saturation of the international market in tropical products, the disparity of prices between the manufactured products imported and the raw materials exported.
