  [ EN ] Indo-pakistani of Madagascar are called Karany in the North (and Karana on the central Highlands). They arrive on the northern coasts a long time before the colonization to trade with native kinglets. Protected by the colonial authorities as essential economic middlemen by their shops, plantations or food industries, they form several groups according to their religion (hindus, sunni muslims, shiit muslims such as Bohra and Khodja), all together strongly separated from the natives. Today they possess flourishing companies of trade, they keep Indian or Pakistani citizenship but have generally adopted Madagascar as their country.
