  [ EN ] Under the ancient regime the power was represented by the very person of the sovereign, and the power was preserved from any attack by a legislation system. This legislation, established under Andrianampoinimerina, has been re-used by the various sovereign who followed after him :
  . Ranavalona I Code, dated 27th adijady, 1828 (January 30, 1829)
  . Radama II Code, dated 12th Alahasaty, 1862 (August 16, 1861)
  . Rasoherina Code, dated 26th Adaoro, 1863 (May 13, 1863).
  In this old legislation the most important provisions were concerned with the protection of the sovereign and his/her power in various forms : interference against the royal authority, the sovereign’s person, those of the sovereign’s spouses, the authority over the sovereign’s residence, properties, the crown’s properties, usurpation of functions, disrespect of the authority’s deeds. The most serious cases were punished by capital punishment (except under Radama II, who abolished the capital punishment), accompanied by confiscation of all properties and reducting to slavery the spouse and children.

  Ny fepetra lehibe indrindra tamin’ireo lalàna fahiny ireo mikasika ny fiarovana ny mpanjaka sy ny fahefana tamin’ny endriny isan-karazany, fanohintohinana ny fahefan’ny mpanjaka, ny tenan’ny mpanjaka, ireo vadin’ny mpanjaka, ny trano fonenan’ny mpanjaka, ny fanànany, ny fanànam-panjakana, fandrombaham-pahefana, ny tsy fanajàna ny fahefana. Nahatapa-doha ny heloka lehibe (afa-tsy tamin’ny andron-dRadama II izay nanafoana ny fanapahan-doha) ary dia mbola nomban’ny fandraisan’ny fanjakana ny fananana rehetra sy ny fanandevozana ny vady aman-janaka.
