  [ EN ] The Committee of Madagascar started with a group of French nationals who had previously lived in the Island and who, since the end of 1894, had gathered within the « Société de Géographie commerciale de Paris ». They were scientists, explorers, businessmen, merchant-shipowners. Their prime objective was that, as Tunisia, Madagascar be a protectorate. The Committee, having met with an opposition from the annexationists’led by de Mahy, deputy of La Réunion, left the S.G.C. Following the failure of a compromise attempt, i.e. “the appropriation”, the Parliament voted the Law of Annexation.
  This failure led the Committee of Madagascar to join with the Colonial Union in 1898. The Committee became the Governor General Gallieni’s unofficial agent, and thus, worked for the development of the colony. It came into decline after Gallieni’s departure to disappear in 1911.

  Io tsi-fahombiazana io no nitarika ny fifamatoran’ny Komitin’i Madagasikara tamin’ny “Union coloniale” tamin’ny taona 1898. Nanjary fitaovana ambadik’i Gallieni, gouverneur général, ny Komity ary niasa mba ho amin’ny fanajariana ny zanatany. Nihena hery taorian’ny nandaozan’i Gallieni ny Nosy, ary dia foana tanteraka tamin’ny taona 1911.
