    [ EN ] What are studied here are the trends which tried, since early in the 1960s in Madagascar, to re-think the relationships between state power and peasantry. Inspired by the reference to a more mythical than historical fokonolona, such trends ended up, after the fall of the First Republic, with the drafting of Ordinance of March 24, 1973.
    After a retrospection on the First Republic’s policy vis-à-vis the peasantry, various trends focusing on fokonolona as the basis of a myth of the Malagasy people are studied : the Christian-influenced ethno-philosophical trend, approach by foreign sociologists through fieldwork, awareness of the military and the gendarme. These trends will converge into a momentary effect of unanimity, after 1972, which gave the transition government a utopic project of a democratic and egalitarian society centered on a fokonolona which was hostile vis-à-vis the city, and which had little to do with the reality of rural societies.
