  [ EN ] The North of Madagascar was divided in three fiscal zones at the beginning of the colonial period according to the ancient political limits ; french territory of Diego-Suarez, merina government in the North East (Vohémar), self-government of the antakarana kings in the North West. An original feature of this region is the existence of a capitation for the unmarried women both consequence of local morals and biased way to tax the soldiers garrisoned in Diego-Suarez.
