  [ EN ] After the liberation of Mosambika in 1877, the new royal legislative royal texts of the second half of the XIXth century contain articles concerning slavery. The ceasing of the freemen enslavement for insolvency or for any other reasons, the prohibition of the slave trade are the principal aspects. Those changes would let believe that the system was doomed to disappear, British Missionaries, believing it, in any cases and encouraged the emancipation of slaves or their condition easing, in their lectures, and in their various interference over the fithful Malagasy people. Those attempts had as a reaction nothing but hostility and upwar. The fact was, that the system is deeply rooted in the customs and in the social institution of that period. The Malagasy slavery had still to exist until the abolition dictated by France in 1896.
