  [ EN ] The publishing of the Teny Soa review results from the desire for spiritual food after the persecutions of the Christians by Ranavalona I. The East part of Madagascar is presented as a region where the resources are God’s gifts, and where the inhabitants can grow cash crops and make products destined to the international market. Imbued with the superiority of Christianity and Christian values, the missionaries, authors of the review, describe the traditional customs, the taboos and people’s uncleanness. The Gospel is endowed with a transforming power and the missionaries resort to all possible means to win the people’s souls and lead them to God. Yet, the evangelising process also implies a march to occidentalization.
