  [ EN ] The Balega are forest-living population inhabitants of Maniema in Zaïre. In the political field, the power is run by a kind of superstructure called “Bwami”. It is a matter of gerontocratic association which members being considered as elders come from different families composed by many Balega clans. The Legas’Bwami constitute a strong authority power in this society. But apparently, it doesn’t exert any accurate power. The Bwami does not decree any law, not maintain any policy, not even participate in any administration. However, his power is there, permanent and omnipresent.
