  [ EN ] A myth tells the birth of rice from the head pulled away from a child’s corpse and buried by the mother. An other evokes the marriage of a “hunter of birds” with a sky’s daughter what permits to bring the rice on earth ; but it must be sowed both on a tavy and a flooded rice-field in order tot get crops. These myths associate patterns of agriculture, socio-political organization and ideology. To the tavy of rice and tubers practised by a tompon-tany population is added since the XVIIth’century the flooded rice-cultivation under the influence of “islamicised” of the eastern coast and nobles of the plateaux : the Zafirambo with matrilineal descent. The subjection of commoners to the nobles became in the XIXth century a double power joint with a double system of cultivation under the pressure of external ecological and political factors.
