    [ EN ] The latest form of unanimism is the contested “democratic centralism” recorded in the 1975 Malagasy Constitution. Considered as a local and traditional form of democracy, unanimism has been transformed through nationalism by modern contemporary state into a new way of management. This is meant to impede civil society development, which involves a new acceptation of democracy against state totalitarianism. Towns and cities play a major role in this process because of the development of instruction, crowd phenomenon, etc. Those new orientations taken by the Malagasy society have been observed since the colonial period through such indicators as the propagation of mediating organizations between state and citizens, political parties, etc. The give each Malagasy citizen other opportunities of identification which are more respectful of new values like minorities.
