  [ EN ] Contrarily to what one could believe, the colonial situation is not just a relationship between the dominants (Europeans) and the dominated (Malagasy). It shows other conflictual relationships, often acute ones, within the dominants’group. From the study of what was at stake in the external commerce of the Malagasy north-west region in the the 1930s, it is possible to outline the following rift trends : first, that which distinguishes the interests of the foreign land-owners from those of the colonial administration ; second, that which provokes a confrontation between the survival logic of the farmers of that region and the logic of the French capitalism. In both cases, the control of decision-making fails the agricultural colonists. At local level, this control belongs to the administration. As for the colonial market, the control belongs to the metropolitan economic lobbies.
