  [ ENG ] The forest-dwelling Mikea groups who are settled in the South-West of Madagascar are now fairly well-known. Because the Mikea refused to submit to the pressure of any forms of policy, they fled to an inhospitable environment, which explains their relatively primitive way of life based on fruit picking and hunting. Though the first group of Mikea refugees dates back to the time when Eastern dynasties built up the Masikoro Kingdoms, the majority of the Mikea simply shunned colonization.
  Nevertheless, the Mikea are definitely part of the Malagasy community, especially from anthropological and linguistic points of view, even though their religious life remains very simple.
