  [ EN ] What were the motivating forces behind the missionary vocation in the XIXth century Europe ? In what spirit the Jesuits were trained for the task of evangelization ? And how were regarded the mission countries and especially Madagascar ? The beginnings of the Jesuit mission took place in the Small Islands North West of Madagascar. Those missionaries were impulse by a very strong spiritual life, rooted in doctrinal certainties, but they were also prisoner of European prejudices especially concerning Islam.
