  [ EN ] In addition to the tantara which are free style narrative and other accounts with various versions, the Betsileo got other documents of history, less visible and in quite different nature that might contribute to the knowledge of the region. These documents could be classified into three categories :
  1- Verbal tracks of the past (proverbs, public speeches, folk songs, toponyms, tales and legends) ;
  2- Material tracks (archaeological sites, memorials and antiques) ;
  3- Religious ceremonies and rituals.
  From the analysis of these various documents, the work of a historian seems identical to the explorer in search of a treasury : he needs track to discover the “treasury” of the past. Without tracks, without signs, no history.
