[ EN ] The colonial conquest and penetration in the Antemoro-Antesaka province corresponded with the unfurling of the social movements in the south-eastern region. The permanency of those movements constituted problems for the French power in their actions to maintain a firm control on the country and their people. An as much-troubling situation, due mainly to the mobility of the population and the prevailing social turmoil which have compelled the French to recourse not merely to violence for the the pacification of the country, but also to the seduction of the traditional chiefs who have shown a willingness during the country visits focusing on ethnological surveys (studies on groups Histories, determination of former alliances and rivalries). However, owing to the multifarious division of inhabitants which had been also an obstacle for the anti-colonial resistance in Farafangana, such methods had not always revealed fruitful.
