[ EN ] Contrary to the Korao from the South East – those were temporary migrants who during the colonial time worked as temporary hands to the European land owners – the Betsileo were tenant farmers, leasing their lands first from the Sakalava, then for Europeans, and so were ready to settle themselves in the Menabe. From 1950’s, as the price of tobacco has greatly decreased, the Betsileo were less and less willing to leave their villages, except for very poor who were able to adapt themselves completely to the life of the new society and considered themselves Sakalava.

[ MLA ] Saiky mpiasa karamain’ny voanjo mpamboly daholo ny Korao mpifindra monina taona vitsivitsy any amin’ny faritr’i Menabe nandritra ny fanjanahan-tany. Ny Betsileo mpiavy kosa dia tsy mba nikarama fa nanofa tany hovolena tamina Sakalava aloha ary taty aoriandriana tamina voanjo. Mazàna no nanorim-ponenana mihitsy izy ireo, satria tsy nananon-tsarotra taminy loatra ny nifandray tamin’ny Sakalava. Tetsy andanin’izany dia nahazoany tombony betsaka ny voly paraky. Nanomboka tamin’ny taona 1950 teo ho eo dia nihena anefa ny tombom-barotra, koa naleon’ny Betsileo tsy nandao intsony ny tanindrazany. Nisy vitsivitsy ihany anefa voaterin’ny tsy fananana ka nifindra monina ; amin’izay fotoana izay dia mitonon-tena ho Sakalava mihitsy izy ireo.
